Delightful volume of tales illustrated by the late and greatly respected wood engraver John De Pol (1913–2004). The texts are “Old Macgregor: a tale of Hallowe'en” by Rhoda Mansbach, “Lily Hodge” by “Herbert Cahoon, “Lex Talionis” by J. Rigbie Turner, “The ballad of the Belle” by Mark Farrell, “The clergyman's bargain” by Janet Ing Freeman, “Non furtum facies” by Richard Priest, and “Slide lecture” by Liran Ludeley. The texts were edited by Inge Dupont and Hope Mayo and Mayo provided the introduction.
This is the limited edition, not the trade edition issued by Fordham: It is limited to 200 copies, numbered and signed by the editors, the artist, and the printer, with 160 for sale. This is no. 116. The volume was designed by George Laws, printed on Rives paper by M.A. Gelfand and Jim Ricciardi; the typefaces are Emerson, for the text, and Goudy Bible, for titling. The binding was designed by George Laws and binding was done by Frank Castro of Alpha-Pavia Bindery.
