With frontispiece and engraved chapter initials. Contents include
two stories. "The Water-Melon" is about two orphan children on a steamboat voyage
to Dresden. Seeing their dire circumstances, an officer aboard helps them by
auctioning off their watermelon to the wealthy passengers. The second story,
"The Big Agate," is about is about an old woman who owns a toy shop and the
boy who steals the splendid big agate in her shop window.
Publisher's tan cloth, stamped in blind on both covers. Pencilled
gift inscription on front free endpaper. Endpapers lightly foxed, other pages
clean. One chip out of rear free endpaper. Front hinge (inside) starting just
a bit. In mylar. Binding sound. Very good. (4663)

Watts was not only known as a writer of hymns, including those
for children, but was also a philosopher, writing a book on logic. This work
sets forth an ambitious and well-reasoned program for Christian liberal education.
