Bindings: Publisher's scarlet cloth, front covers stamped in black and gilt, with inlaid chromolithographed vignettes and frames of inlaid chromolithographed butterflies; spines stamped in black and gilt. All edges gilt.
Bindings as above, with spines faded and spine gilt rubbed, cloth showing minor wear over edges and extremities, and small spots of discoloration (mostly visible on back covers). Front pastedowns with institutional bookplates. One guard leaf torn; two pages with offsetting from a laid-in advertising sheet from Colin & Cie. Errata slip/binder's instructions also laid in. A strikingly handsome pair, with the beauty of the front covers (not to mention the internal illustrations) not lessened by the above-mentioned “issues.” (13580)
